help: losing power through the clutch? |
Lead | |
|
i was warned about this problem. it feels as if im losing power and i was told it may be cuz of my clutch slipping. it doesnt feel to be slipping bad if any at
all. im running a falicon billet clutch basket and some pretty stiff springs in it as of now but theres about 1,000 miles worth of launching and turbo roll-ons
on them. i am aware that the billet basket consumes more area in the clutch area which in turn means in need to take extra precaution lubricating the clutch
for wear and tear. i dont want to change my plates just for the hell of it. my question is; can you tell if your plates are bad just by a visual inspection?

The two most common wear factors are worn fibers and warped plates. The unit must be disassembled to check either. The fibers are checked by measuring the
thickness and the steels by visual and with a flat plate.

if the clutch is going bad would that explain the later boosting? for instance it used to boost 6psi at 6,000rpm but now its more like 8.

or is that likely due to my new shorter air filter?

A factory manual will explain how to inspect the clutch plates and the min thickness allowed. I don't know what they are for your bike. The clutch slipping
will not affect boost.

Gotcha. Given the plates are bad, do you recommend a particular brand for my turbo? How about oil? I change it every 3000 miles using full synthetic

I use OEM Suzuki plates and Mobil 1 oil.

eh gary, im noticing that momentarily, only when i down shift to decel via engine braking there will be a white exhaust billowing out? you think i may have
burnt a plug out or something or is it just that i need a re-tune? i know for a fact i need to get it re-tuned because there are some flat spots during
acceleration,

Smoke wouldn't be from the tune.

You think I coupe be running off of three cylinders? The bike idles and cruises around town fine. I noticed that my valve cover has a minor leak. Just some oil
residue collecting around it but nothing thats makes me want to tear the plenum out for right away. What could it be?

Don't know. It isn't possible to troubleshoot issues like this over the internet. You need to find a mechanic familar with turbo bikes to check it out.
