gday all,
havent been here for a while thought i'd stick my head in and say hello.
Im about to start my 3rd turbo build, first was a twin turbo 253ci V8 1983 HOLDEN VH Commodore (unless your an australian you probably wouldn't know what it was), 2nd was a 90 GSXR1100 with a td04-13g. (good but turbo was too small)
My new ride is a K4 GSXR1000, its done 23,000km now owned it since new.
Ive picked up a rebuilt Garrett T3 turbo 60 trim 0.60ar comp, stg 1 (std) turbine, 0.63 ar housing. int wastegate 6.5psi
Im going to use one of those eBay chinese turbo headers, & port out the standard wastegate to about 28mm.
do you think this should come on boost ok? i'd be happy if it didn't start coming on until 7000-8000.
its my daily rider, gotta do 50km per day on it (round trip) so its gotta be 110% reliable. (whats the point of building it if its not ay??))
I want to keep it pretty tame and only 6-7psi. i estimate it should make about 200-210hp.
i think i may need an external wastegate to keep the boost so low. any suggestions??
im going to go the traditional way of bell 2025 fmu, walbro gss 342 in tank pump, .060" cometic head gasket and some 50/50 water methanol inj with a tank under the backseat.
ive already got a pc3. I'll use a 2&1/4" exhaust system with a muffler to keep it legal & quiet. should i go 2.5"?
ive got a k6 inlet cam in & a 750 inlet in the exhaust at 105/105. Ive got adjustable ape sprockets, thinking about going back to stock cams when doing the headgasket or should I just leave what i've got?i thought the bigger exhaust cam might help the turbo.
it works pretty well as it is, its got 165hp at the wheel and I've done a few 9.7's at 147-148mph.
will a stock wheelbase gsxr1000 with 6psi be ok for full boost in everygear or will i need to look at some gps based boost controller? i think at the strip it needs 0 boost in 1st! lol
Thanks,
Luke.
